Summer School in Kazakh and Russian and Eurasian Studies (SSKRES) at Nazarbayev University
SSKRES at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan, is an intensive academic program that offers students the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Kazakh and Russian languages and experience Kazakh and post-Soviet culture in the heart of Eurasia.

In 2025, SSKRES will offer a full 8-week program, as well as two 4-week sessions.
8-week program
(equivalent to 1 academic year of study):

May 26 – July 18

4-week program
(equivalent to 1 semester of study):
Program fee*: $5000
Session 1: May 26-June 20
Session 2: June 23-July 18
*The program fee includes housing and cultural program. Students must pay for airfare, health insurance, and visa expenses.

The cost of the program does not include meal plan, but there are many dining options on campus, such as cafeterias, cafes, and coffee shops. Additionally, within walking distance, there is a large shopping mall "Mega Silk Way", where you can find a large food court and numerous restaurants.

The main component of SSKRES 2025 will be intensive courses in Kazakh and Russian, offering the equivalent of one semester (4-weeks) or a full academic year (8-weeks) of language instruction.

Students are placed into appropriate levels, according to their level of proficiency. Courses are taught by professionals who have experience instructing international students. In addition, each student will be a assigned a NU student tutor for conversational practice.

SSKRES 2025 will offer optional elective courses in Eurasian Studies taught in English for an additional payment.
Student Life
Program participants will live in fully equipped dormitories on campus and share rooms with NU students.
Cultural Program
During their stay in Kazakhstan, students will be able to participate in weekly excursions in and around the city ofAstana, including the Burabay National Park, the KARLAG (Karaganda Corrective Labor Camp) – one of the largest labor camps in the GULAG system, and the Korgalzhyn Nature Reserve – the northernmost habitat of pink flamingos.
Application
SSKRES 2025 is open to graduate and undergraduate students. Students must be eligible to obtain a visa to live and study in Kazakhstan. Nazarbayev University will provide visa information and support (included in the cost of the program).
