Sofia An received her master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University (2002) and her PhD from the Faculty of Social Work of the University of Toronto (2014). Her doctoral research was concerned with the post-Soviet evolution of child welfare provisions in Kazakhstan, shaped by transnational institutional factors and Soviet legacies.
Her research/teaching interests include post-Soviet social policy, institutional continuity and change, and transnational flows of ideas. More specifically, she is interested in examining post-Soviet/post-socialist social transformations. Being a member of the European Social Work Research Association (ESWRA), Sofia An has recently initiated a special interest research group on post-Soviet and post-socialist social work.
