Azat is a postdoctoral scholar at the Physics Department here at Nazarbayev University (NU) since 2018. Before his current position, he worked as a research assistant in the Physics Department. He has received his Bachelor degree in Physics from Kazakh National University (KazNU) after Al-Farabi and got his PhD from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Azat’s background research was in design, development, and characterization of III-V group material lasers and integrated devices for wavelength division multiplexing and coherent optical communications. Current research includes laser based material science including nanosecond laser heating and melting, nanoscale thermal transport in bulk and thin films using optical pump-probe technique, Brillouin and Raman spectroscopy for material characterization.
