Assem joined Department of Biology at Nazarbayev
University as a Teaching Assistant in 2011. She was
actively involved actively both in teaching and research
processes of the department by mentoring a group of
students interested in using zebrafish Danio rerio, to
study hypoxic-ischemic brain damage. She was a part of
a team led by Dr Ken Alibek which published review
articles on the role of pathogens in the development

In 2014, she left to pursue Master’s degree in France
where she had an advantage of rotation in different
research institutions to primarily study plant
development and Tax protein in retrovirus HTLV-1.
In 2017, Assem joined Biology Department as an
Instructor to teach laboratory practicals for
undergraduate students. Currently, she supervises
undergraduate students during their Summer
internships and is involved in a research project to
study bactericidal effects of silver nanoparticles under
supervision of Dr Kanayeva and Dr Atabayev.
