We are pleased to announce that Yana Sissembayeva, research assistant at the NU Chemistry Department, and Temirlan Karatay, undergraduate student at the NU Biology Department, have received the Best Presentation Award at the International Workshop on Science and Technology of Advanced Materials and Devices (STAMD 2025). The workshop was held from July 6–8, 2025, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, bringing together leading researchers from across the region.

Their award-winning presentation highlighted groundbreaking work on the development of multifunctional theranostic gold nanorods coated with polyethylene glycol (PEG). These nanostructures are designed to function as CT contrast agents, support photothermal cancer therapy, and exhibit antibacterial properties — showcasing a promising approach in nanomedicine that bridges diagnostics and treatment.

This interdisciplinary research was made possible through the support of two major grants:

  • The MSHE grant (2023–2025) led by Prof. Timur Atabaev (Chemistry Department), and
  • The NU Faculty Development Competitive Research Grant Program (FDCRGP, 2025–2027) led by Prof. Tri Pham (Biology Department).

Congratulations to Yana, Temirlan, and the research teams involved for this outstanding achievement that exemplifies NU’s commitment to cutting-edge, collaborative science with real-world impact.
