Nazarbayev University and the School of Molecular and Theoretical Biology Host International Summer Camp in Astana

The School of Sciences and Humanities at Nazarbayev University, in close collaboration with the School of Molecular and Theoretical Biology (USA), hosted a summer camp in Molecular and Theoretical Biology for high school students from around the world.

High school students work alongside active scientists on real scientific projects.

The camp welcomed 76 participants from 11 countries, including Georgia, Belarus, Armenia, Serbia, Ukraine, the USA, Uzbekistan, Russia, Albania, Poland, and Kazakhstan (represented by four cities – Astana, Almaty, Pavlodar, and Semey). The summer camp was held this year in Astana from June 29 to July 16, 2025.
In addition to student participants, professors from 15 countries have also come to Astana – the UK, Serbia, Japan, Austria, Germany, Finland, Armenia, Spain, Belarus, Georgia, the USA, Norway, Denmark, Lithuania, and France.

Scientists involved in the camp represent laboratories from the following universities:

16 labs with Principal Investigators from OIST (Okinawa, Japan), Max Delbrück Center (Berlin, Germany), University of Helsinki (Finland), University of Pittsburgh (USA), Northwestern University (USA), Lund University (Sweden), University of Massachusetts Medical School (USA), University of Vienna (Austria), ISTA (Austria), Worcester Polytechnic Institute (USA), Helmholtz Institute for Pharmaceutical Research Saarland (Germany), University of Hamburg (Germany), Skoltech (Russia), Vavilov Institute of General Genetics (Russia), Institute of Protein Research RAS (Pushchino, Russia).
