We are proud to announce that the laboratory of Nazarbayev University, under the leadership of Professor from SSH NU Darkhan Utepbegenov and with the participation of students Aizhan Akhmadi and Adilkhan Yeskendir, has achieved a breakthrough in the research on the function of the DJ-1 protein associated with Parkinson's disease.
During the research, it has been experimentally proven that the DJ-1 protein plays a key role in neutralizing toxic by-products of glycolysis, protecting our cells from damage.
This discovery not only unveils a new chapter in understanding the mechanisms of the disease but also lays the groundwork for potential new approaches to its treatment.
The results, published in the journal Nature Communications (ranking among the top 3% of biochemical journals), have not only become the most significant in this field over the past 20 years but also serve as confirmation of the high level of scientific work. This success is unprecedented for Kazakhstan and confirms the role of domestic scientists on the global scientific stage.
