NU professor Dr. Irshad Kammakakam was invited by Spectrum International School, Astana

As an invited speaker, Dr. Irshad Kammakakam, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry visited Spectrum International School in Astana. Dr. Kammakakam delivered a presentation on a topic entitled “Research Career Developments: Life of a Scientist”. The talk covered mostly the degree programs and research career developments in the universities and the daily routine of a scientist. Dr. Kammakakam extended his talk on the importance of “Why high school students consider research”; it is not too early for teenagers to be involved in research, Ada Lovelace, commonly known as the first programmer in the world was just 17 years old when she began her dream steps of the analytical engine with Charles Babbage.

The speaker added; “First Nobel Laureate in science from India, Sir C.V. Raman was just only 16 when he commenced sound and light experiments”. Later the talk slipped into an open discussion between students and Dr. Kammakakam, which ended up as one of the highlights of the program.

Dr. Sandugash Kalybekkyzy, a Postdoctoral research scholar in the Department of Chemistry later gave a presentation on the BSc Chemistry Program at Nazarbayev University.
